Oral-B Pro 6000 vs Pro 7000

Our Choice: The Pro 6000 (view on Amazon) 2nd Choice: The Pro 7000 (view on Amazon)

Electric Teeth Verdict:

Two really feature rich brushes, that are so similar yet different.

The 7000 is a brilliant toothbrush, with a great box contents, but the 6000 is the newer and better electric toothbrush.

It looks and feels better in the hand than the 7000, which is chunkier, heavier and has a lesser battery life.

For a more detailed comparison of electric toothbrush currently available, see our list of recommended brushes for 2019.

Our Choice

Please Note: The name Pro and SmartSeries 6000 and 7000 names are used interchangeably throughout this comparison.  A Pro 6000 is the same as the SmartSeries 6000.  It is just 2 different names that apply to these models.

Key differences

  • The Pro 6000 comes with a battery that lasts up to 12 days compared to the 10 of the 7000.
  • The profile and look of the brushes is different
  • The Pro 6000 has an LED Smart Ring.
  • Similar yet different travel cases.
  • The Pro 7000 has a Smart Wireless Guide that the Pro 6000 does not.
  • The Pro 6000 has 5 cleaning modes, but the SmartSeries 7000 has 6.
  • The Pro 6000 comes with 1 x CrossAction brush head in the box compared to the 3 brush heads in the box ( 1 x CrossAction, 1 x Sensitive and 1 x 3D White) with the 7000.
  • The Pro 7000 is cheaper.

Detailed Comparison: What’s the difference between the Oral-B SmartSeries 6000 and Pro 7000?

I count 8 key differences between these two brushes, but these are 8 differences which are really small in the scheme of things and picking a best one between these two is difficult.

So, the Pro 6000 is actually a newer model than the 7000, but sits below it in the range.

There is a Genius 8000 that sits at the top of the range and truthfully if you are looking at the 6000 or 7000 I would seriously consider the 8000.  It probably just has the edge out of them all, when you are looking at these types of brushes.  Yes it is a few $ more, but in the scheme of things it is not too much more for what you get. Right, so the first and biggest difference is the battery life.

The Pro 6000 actually has the better battery life thanks to a new Lithium Ion battery that lasts up to 12 days compared to the 10 days of the Pro 7000.

In actual usage time, this gives the Pro 6000 48 minutes of use compared to the 40 minutes on the 7000.

The 7000 uses an older battery technology.  The Nickel Hydride battery is perfectly fine, but the knock on effect is that the 7000 is actually larger and heavier in its profile despite offering less battery life.

The Pro 6000 measures in at:

  • Height (without head) – 20.5cm
  • Height (with head) – 24cm
  • Width – 2.7cm
  • Thickness – 3.2cm
  • Weight (without head) – 134g
  • Weight (with head) – 140g

The Pro 7000 measures in at:

  • Height (without head) – 20.5cm
  • Height (with head) – 24cm
  • Width – 3cm
  • Thickness – 4cm
  • Weight (without head) – 163g
  • Weight (with head) – 168g

The two brushes look different.  The Pro 6000 looks more modern with that slimmer profile and a series of icons that illuminate on the front panel to show you which cleaning mode you are using.

Where the 7000 has more rubber grips on the front and rear, the Pro 6000 has rubber primarily just on the rear of the handle with only the power and function button being coated in it on the front.

In hand both feel comfortable, the 7000 has a reassuring chunkiness to it, where as the 6000 is a more uniform design.

The 6000 comes in White colour option only, whereas the 7000 is available in Black or White.  With the 7000 the Black coloured model is flanked with 2 silver strips on the right and left hand side, where the White is just that, all white.

Both brushes have what is known as a pressure sensor, that illuminated red when too much pressure is applied to the teeth during brushing.  However, on the Pro 6000, this rear mounted pressure sensor has evolved into the LED Smart Ring. This ring illuminated 1 of 12 different colours based on the user’s preference.

Light up all the time the brush is on, it will turn red if too much pressure is applied,

This gives a degree of personality to the brush and makes it look a bit more trendy.

This trendy design brief did not quite makes it to the travel case that comes included with the Pro 6000.  It is more robust, better shaped and looks more appealing than the most basic of travel cases Oral-B have been known to offer, but the 7000’s is much smarter and more appealing.  It is finished in a  soft touch material and looks considerably more premium.

In truth both do the job of protecting the brush handle and holding up to 2 brush heads, the 7000 travel case just looks the part.

Looking the part is great, but at the end of the day you buy a toothbrush to clean your teeth with. Either model is going to do a fantastic job of this.  The consistent power delivery will remove more plaque and clean the teeth better than a manual toothbrush.

The Pro 6000 has 5 cleaning modes, but the SmartSeries 7000 has 6.

Both have Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive and Whitening.

The 7000 has Deep Clean, whereas the 6000 has Pro-Clean, which replaces Deep Clean in many respects.

The 7000 also has a tongue cleaning mode.

Tongue cleaning is more important than you might think and can really help if you want to reduce the chance of having bad breath.  It is a mode that runs at a lower power and only for 20 seconds.

You could however just use the standard daily clean mode or the sensitive mode and run it for 20 seconds whilst brushing your tongue.  The act of doing this is more important than the number or movements.

For each cleaning mode there are recommended brush heads.  Now the interchangeable nature of the heads means you can use any brush head on any cleaning mode, but some are better suited than others.

The Pro 6000 comes with 1 x CrossAction brush head in the box compared to the 1 x CrossAction, 1 x Sensitive and 1 x 3D White) with the 7000.  Given that the 6000 offers a Sensitive and a Whitening mode it seems a shame that additional heads could not be included. Having said that many find the CrossAction to be the best as it has a universal design focused on cleaning, rather than being soft or good at polishing first for example.

Any of the brush heads can be purchased separately if you desire.

Bluetooth connectivity is a feature that both of these brushes share and Oral-B are looking to get more users to embrace it, so this is likely why the 6000 and 8000 do not include the Smart Wireless Guide that is available with the 7000.

Now, I am not here to discuss the Bluetooth connection in detail, but it is not always practical and I feel that the Smart Wireless Guide is a handy accessory.  The Pro 7000 wins points in my book here for this.

A small clock it kicks into life when the brush is switched on encouraging brushing for the right amount of time, where to brush and encouragement on how well you are doing, as well as easily seeing which mode you are on.

You can read more about what I think of the Smart Wireless Guide in the Pro 7000 review.

Now whilst this last difference should not be the overriding factor in selecting the right brush for you, the 7000 tends to be the cheaper.

Whilst sitting higher in the range than the Pro 6000 the new features of the 6000 draw a premium price.

There is not all that much in it, about $15 at the time of writing.

That there are all the key differences explained. There are many ways in which these brushes are similar.

Both have a 2 year warranty, which covers you against mechanical faults.

A 2 minute timer and quadpacer are built into both models.  At 30 second and 2 minute intervals you will hear a change in the sound emitted by the brush as a result in a pause in the brush motor.  This is your signal to change quadrant or stop brushing.

Both are water resistant so whilst they should not be immersed in water they can withstand a rinse under the tap and under the shower.  Remember to clean your brush regularly and change the brush heads every 3 months to ensure to prolong the life of your brush and not to do damage to your teeth.

A pressure sensor as previously discussed is present on both as is Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to track and monitor your cleans, with advice provided for better oral health.

Both brushes do too ship with a brush head storage compartment that holds up to 4 brush heads when not in use.  Complete with a lid, it is a smart and convenient brush head storage tool.  A cutout in this also provides a home for the brush’s charging stand.

Does one clean better than the other?

If you want to get very technical, the Pro 6000 can deliver fractionally more power on select cleaning modes, but the ability to notice this in an everyday scenario is not possible really and only under scientific conditions, might you see the benefits.

From my perspective, the day to day cleaning is equivalent on both brushes and far more effective than a manual brush. Yes, the 7000 does offer an extra cleaning mode, but we are splitting hairs here, when you can brush your tongue with any of the other cleaning modes.

The SmartGuide is a great tool with the 7000 and whilst it does not directly impact the clean, it does encourage you to brush better and for the right length of time.

Both brushes have the app and Bluetooth functionality that can help achieve a better clean too, but this is more about you and I as users doing a better job than the brush itself.

Is one better priced than the other?

Despite the 7000 being the more premium model by the model number, the SmartSeries 6000 is the more expensive by about $15 at the time of writing.

This premium is because it is new and some of the better technology, most notably the battery.

Both are subject to deals and on a different day the pricing may well be reversed.

Pay a price you are happy with for the brush you feel suits you best.

Conclusion & which one should I buy?

As I said at the start, my choice would be the Pro 6000.

The 7000 is still a very solid brush though and would serve you well.

You need to pick the one that is best suited to you and your needs.

Both are very good brushes.

As these are far from the cheapest brushes, if you are prepared to spend this sort of money, I would encourage considering the Genius Pro 8000 too as this is ‘the best’ brush in the range and is essentially a blend of the 6000 and 7000.

Oral-B Pro 1000 vs Pro 7000

 one would we choose?

Our Choice: The Pro 7000 (view on Amazon) 2nd Choice: The Pro 1000 (view on Amazon)

Electric Teeth Verdict:

This comparison is a little unfair.

It’s a little like comparing the ‘value’ or ‘basics’ product against the ‘Premium’ or ‘Exclusive’ product.

Its equivalent to comparing a basic Ford Fiesta to the Ford GT40 race car.

Both are excellent toothbrushes in their own right providing a great clean.  The Pro 1000 sets a high bar for the price, but the 7000 is considerably more appealing, it’s just you pay for it.  At the time of writing some $90.

Our Choice

Key differences

  • The Pro 1000 has 1 cleaning mode (Daily Clean) compared to the 6 of the Pro 70000 (Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, Deep Clean and Tongue Cleaning).
  • The Pro 1000 comes with 1 x CrossAction brush head included whereas the Pro 7000 comes with 1 x CrossAction, 1 x ProWhite and 1 x Sensitive brush head in the box (Other versions/configurations of Pro 7000 exist).
  • The Pro 7000 has a 10 day/40 minute battery life compared to the 7 day/28 minutes of the Pro 1000.
  • The Pro 7000 has a visible pressure sensor
  • The Pro 7000 has Bluetooth connectivity.
  • The Pro 7000 comes with a Smart Wireless Guide.
  • The Pro 7000 comes with a storage compartment for up to 4 brush heads.
  • The Pro 7000 has a premium travel case.
  • The Pro 1000 is all White, Black and White or Blue and White  in colour compared to the 7000 which is available in all White or Black/Silver colour combinations.
  • The Pro 1000 is generally the cheaper of the two.

Please Note:

The word Pro and Smart Series are used interchangeably when followed by the 7000 model number.  This is because both names apply to the model.  It’s the same thing, but there has been a bit of a re-branding exercise that has taken place, so where once named only the Pro 7000, it is now a bit of a combination as Oral-B try to make consideration for the Bluetooth connectivity that it offers, hence the Oral-B Pro 7000 SmartSeries electric toothbrush.

Detailed Comparison: What’s the difference between the Oral-B Pro 1000 and Pro 7000?

As I outlined in the outset, there are quite a few differences between these two brushes.

The big advantage you get with the Pro 1000 is value for money, in fact the 7000 offers reasonable value for money, but as you spend more you don’t get quite as much for every $ spent.

Lets look in a bit more detail on what makes these two brushes stand apart.

Let’s start with how they look.  The physical size of these two brushes are different.  Most notably this is because they contain batteries with different capacities.

The 1000 has a 7 day battery life, compared to the SmartSeries 7000 that has a 10 day battery life.  Using the standard Daily Clean mode this is a usage time of 28 and 40 minutes respectively.

The 7000 is better for families or travellers as a result, but the battery life is not as good as some competing products.

So in terms of their physical size, the larger 7000 measures in at:

  • Height (without head) – 20.5cm
  • Height (with head) – 24cm
  • Width – 3cm
  • Thickness – 4cm
  • Weight (without head) – 163g
  • Weight (with head) – 168g

The Pro 1000 on the other hand measures in at:

  • Height (without head) – 19.5cm
  • Height (with head) – 23cm
  • Width – 2.5cm
  • Thickness – 3cm
  • Weight (without head) – 124g
  • Weight (with head) – 130g

Aside from the battery that makes them physically different, the 7000 has a different icon configuration on the front.  While both show battery power, on the 7000 the battery is broken down into 3 sections and the front panel also shows the wireless icon for the Bluetooth.

On the 1000 to turn the brush on you have a single power button.  On the 7000 there is a power button but an additional button for cycling through and selecting the appropriate cleaning mode.

The heavier and wider SmartSeries 7000 feels solid in hand, and perhaps better for those with limited dexterity, but the 1000 wins for a smart compact feel in hand.

The 1000 has a rubber strip that runs down the front of the brush for grip and style.  The 1000 comes in 3 colour options all White, Blue and White and Black and White.  The rubber on the front is what changes in colour, the sides and rear of the handle is always a gloss white. On the Pro 7000 it comes primarily in a Black colour option and has rubber on the rear of the handle rather than plastic.  It is a slightly more matte Black than on the 1000.  There are silver panels on the right and left side that make it look smart and stand out.

There is an all white colour option for the 7000 but this is generally a lot more expensive and not sold as widely as the Black colour option.

Another small design difference, but one that is actually a useful feature is on the upper neck of the handle, it is a red plastic panel which is the pressure sensor.  Found on the 7000 only, this panel illuminates a bright red thanks to an LED inside, when too much pressure is applied to the teeth when brushing.

Both brushes have a sensor built in that will reduce the power delivered to the brush head until the pressure is reduced, but it is the 7000 that has the visible pressure sensor.  If the pressure sensor is illuminated, simply reduce the pressure put on the teeth and the light will go off.

Both brushes do a good job of brushing your teeth.  Both will remove more plaque than a manual brush and leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean after each use.

Technically, the Pro 7000 delivers a little more power via pulsation on the Daily Clean mode, but noticing this or telling the difference is essentially impossible.  I wished to mention it for the record, but the reality is, it makes little difference.

What makes the 1000 appealing is the simple no nonsense approach of having just 1 cleaning mode.  The 7000 has the same Daily Clean mode but also has  Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, Deep Clean and Tongue Cleaning.

All of these work slightly differently to achieve different results.  Not all of us need these extra modes, but they can bring benefits if you suffer from sensitive teeth and gums particularly, thanks to the reduced power options.

Modes like Deep Clean run for 3 minutes compared to the normal 2.  Whilst Tongue Cleaning runs for just 20 seconds at a lower power.

A handle like this works well in a family environment with multiple users, all who may have different requirements.

If you simply want to brush your teeth and have done with it, then consider the 1000 or one of the lesser featured models than the SmartSeries 7000.

Packaged with the 1000 is a single CrossAction brush head.  Whereas the 7000 comes with the same CrossAction but 1 x ProWhite and 1 x Sensitive brush head.

The additional brush heads are included to work with the different cleaning modes available on the brush.

You can purchase any of the different styled brush heads at any time.

To accommodate the additional brush heads, the Pro 7000 comes with a storage tray/compartment.  Holding up to 4 brush heads it has a lid that stops any splashes, but still allows for ventilation.  It is well designed and works well.

This storage compartment has also a cutout for the charging stand to fit into, for a neat countertop installation.

As you might expect the Pro 7000 is the more expensive of the two due to the features an extra contents that is included in the box.

Some of that extra value is best represented in the following extra features.

Included in the box is what is referred to as the Wireless SmartGuide.

It is a small clock and acts like this until the brush is turned on.  At this point the screen changes to show graphically what cleaning mode you have selected, how long you have been brushing for, how well you are doing via a star rating and sad or smiley face as well as a quadrant icon that highlights which quadrant you should be brushing as the time passes.

Powered by 2 x AA batteries, this is a gadget you do not appreciate the value of until you don’t have it.

It reminds you how long you have been brushing for and is a good stimulus when you get distracted.  It also provides that visual feedback to brush for the right time.

Overall it is a great aid and should be included with more brushes, in my opinion.

This little SmartGuide is great, but the 7000 does also boast a more cutting edge technology that is more fitting of the digital age we live in.

Bluetooth enabled, you can connect the 7000 to your Android or iOS smartphone.

More detail on how it works is provided in the full review of the Pro 7000.

The fundamental principle is that the app shows you in real time how well you are cleaning, like the SmartGuide does, but it then logs it, so you have a digital record of your cleaning.  This can be helpful in achieving you goals.

You can also complete some brush customisations via this too. Such connectivity is not for everyone and will appeal to the younger generation more, but it is a novel feature that works.

The last major difference between these two models is the travel case.

The 1000 is travel case free, meaning you need to buy one, or you need to pop it in your washbag.

Provided with the 7000 is what Oral-B refer to as a premium travel case. It is not the most premium option that they offer but it is better than the basic.

It holds the brush and 2 brush heads, it is well constructed with a soft touch finish and feels robust.  It is also colour matched to the brush, with a black colour to it.

The whole design is fitting to the brush and the premium price it commands.

That then is the key differences explained.

Naturally there are similarities too.

Both share the same charging stand and both have a 2 year warranty.

Does one clean better than the other?

No not in my opinion.

Whilst technically the 7000 can deliver more power and has more cleaning modes, it does not necessarily mean it cleans better.

The different modes give it extra functions which make it better suited for different users.

I would suggest that the 7000 brings conveniences and can assist with better oral hygiene routines, with modes such as the tongue cleaning option.

It could be argued that someone with sensitive gums might get a better clean with the 7000 on the Sensitive cleaning mode than the might with the 1000’s only Daily Clean mode; but that would be only because of the reduced power it delivers and not because the brush head or motor works in a way that is different enough to effect the clean.

It might too be a bit of a stretch and really seeing or tracking a better clean as a result is very difficult.  However, the Smart Wireless Guide and Bluetooth connectivity can help you in my opinion, clean better.

Is one better priced than the other?

As you would expect, the extra benefits of the Pro 7000 do not come for free.

Roughly speaking there is $90 difference between the two.

Prices are always changing, but that difference is hard to justify for some.

Yes the 7000 does offer a lot of extra box contents and features, but do you need them?

Have you ever desired a whitening mode? Do you travel a lot? Are you using this brush yourself or sharing with other family members?  There are the sorts of questions you have to ask yourself.

This is not a small difference in price, but for the extra benefits, it could be justifiable if you answered yes to all or some of these questions.

The SmartGuide in my eyes is worth $20 alone, if not more.

It is not uncommon, despite the 7000 being the more expensive for it to be subject to more promotions and special offers, so time it right and you might just get a deal.

Conclusion & which one should I buy?

Answering this question accurately relies on me having a better understanding of what it is you want and need.

At the start of the comparison I made the suggestion that the 7000 was my choice and it still is.  It is a fantastic all round package.

As good as it is, there is no point paying all the extra money if you won’t be using the extra features and benefits its brings.

Think about it.

What are you comfortable spending?

Oral-B Pro 7000 vs. 8000

If you have recently started looking into purchasing a high-end electric toothbrush, you have probably come to realize that there are a lot of different options out there. It is exactly because of those options that it can sometimes be difficult to determine which handle is right for you.

For that reason, today we will be taking a side by side comparative look at the Oral-B 7000 and the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000. Read on for an up-close look at these impressive brushes.

As we have introduced in previous reviews, both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 are higher end brushes relative to the rest of the products on the company’s line. Both fall into the category of “smart brushes”, for the fact that they utilize Bluetooth technology to sync up with user’s smartphones. Once the brushes have synced up with your phone, they are able to store data to provide you with detailed information on your brushing habits.

They also distinguish themselves from other brushes of their class by way of the numerous brushing settings that they offer users. The modes for both brushes are as follows: Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, Tongue Cleaning and Pro-Clean.

Though designed, in general, to deliver a comprehensive clean, the 7000 is particularly dedicated to delivering thorough plaque removal around the gum line. The 8000 is also very capable of cleaning safely and thoroughly around the gum line, but focuses also on giving a thorough, tooth by tooth clean that is facilitated by their round brush head design, as well as the Criss-Cross bristles that are made to fit around the tooth so that no area of the mouth is missed.

back to menu ↑

Both handles are of a fairly standard design relative to the world of electric toothbrushes. That said since these are higher end handles, there are a few extra features that become apparent as you take a closer look. For one thing, both of these brushes feature what Oral- B refers to as a “Pressure Ring,” near where the brush head connects to the handle.

You will also notice that, in addition to the power button, there are a few additional buttons and symbols on the faceplate of each handle. These buttons are in place to account for the multiple settings that each brush feature. The 8000 features symbols for each of the six settings, while the 7000 allows you to shift through them via a button located near the power icon.

Is there any difference of the designing? Yes!

The brush handle of Oral-B 7000 uses the ergonomic design while Oral-B 8000 has a cylindrical shape. Personally, I prefer the appearance of 8000, because:

  • The grip part and the bottom of Oral-B 8000 handle are made of a large area of soft rubber, which feels more comfortable in grip and better ant-skidding than 7000;
  • Because 8000 is the cylindrical design, it is easier to install a large LED display area in the center of the brush handle and it is well integrated with the surrounding rubber parts. The brush handle of 7000 is irregular, only a small LED display area is installed at the bottom.

Since 5000 and 7000 were lunched about one year earlier than 6000 and 8000, as 8000/9600 has become the new Oral-B flagship of its electric toothbrush product line, I think it has made great progress in its designing.

Both handles are offering 2 colors option – black and white. As I have mentioned before, I prefer to choose white one, because toothpaste stains are usually left in the crevice of the brush handle, the white surface does not make the toothpaste stain look obvious.

Please note that the white version of 8000 has two different serial numbers now, one is Oral-B Pro 7500, its design and main features are the same as 8000. the only difference is the 7500 offers a white color while the handle of 8000 is black. So, don’t think it is an upgrade version of the 7000 series! Another one is called Pro 9600: Whether they are the models with the different function? My answer is No. According to the user on Amazon, 8000 and 9600 are basically identical in shape, color, function and accessories, and there is no significant difference.

back to menu ↑

These brushes are actually fairly similar in most of the major aspects of their features. They both feature the same modes, they come with similar accessories, and they are both tech-heavy, benefitting greatly from their Bluetooth technology.

  • High-efficiency cleaning: Like all good electric toothbrushes, both of these handles are going to be up to three times better than manual toothbrushes at eliminating plaque and germs. If you are new to the world of electric toothbrushes, you are sure to enjoy a much more thorough clean with either of these handles.
  • Complete brushing modes: Both of these handles also offer 6 modes of brushing. The multiple modes will help to ensure that a wider range of people is able to enjoy the handles. It will also, of course, make sure that you can give your mouth the clean it needs even on the occasions where your gums or teeth are feeling sensitive.
  • The latest version of the APP: App support has become something of an industry standard in the world of high-end electric toothbrushes. Nevertheless, it is still nice to see that both of these handles are able to offer it. For the smartphone savvy user, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and the real-time feedback provided by the app data is going to be enough to fiercely improve your oral hygiene regiment.
  • Smart pressure sensors: The pressure sensors featured in both of these brushes are particularly vital for the fact that with improper use electric toothbrushes can be a little bit hard on the teeth and gums. The same power and efficiency that makes an electric toothbrush so useful also make it harmful to your mouth in the case of misuse. The sensor will help to keep your mouth safe as you brush.Compared with the vibration hints on the low-end products, the combination of a LED smart ring will make the pressure control more intuitive. In addition, you can use the APP to illuminate with your choice of 12 colors of the LED smart ring on Oral-B 8000.
  • Timer/Pacer: The timer/pacer features of these handles are in place to ensure that give your teeth the sort of cleaning that dentists recommend. They accomplish this by timing your sessions (counting down from the dentist recommended two minutes) and then notifying you when it is time to move on to another section of your mouth so that all of your teeth are equally clean.
  • Accessories: Both handles feature a traveling carrying case that will make it easy to bring your toothbrush with you on the go. The carrying cases themselves are also fairly techy for the fact that they also serve as a “charging station.” If you want to juice up your toothbrush, or even your smartphone, you will be able to do so using the lithium battery present in the “smart carrying case.” The charge provided promises to keep your toothbrush running for up to 12 days.

That said, there are a few differences, particularly in the way in which that technology is implemented.

  • While both of the handles do utilize app support and Bluetooth technology, it is not quite to the same extent. The Oral-B 8000 is able to give users more comprehensive feedback with their app support, even going so far as to show where in your mouth you have addressed, and where you still need to give attention. They call this “Position Detection” The enhanced app support makes brushing with the 8000 a little bit more thorough, and perhaps a little bit more fun.
  • As previously mentioned, they also have slightly different emphasis. The Oral-B 7000 focuses heavily on plaque removal along the gum line, while the 8000 is more focused on providing a comprehensive clean that is able to address each tooth individually. Ultimately, of course, both handles will be more efficient at either task than a manual brush.
  • The Oral B 7000 comes with the wireless “Smart Guide”, a device that coordinates with the brush wirelessly to provide real-time feedback on your brushing. Feedback includes information on the mode that you are using, how much longer you should spend brushing your teeth, and when you should move on to another region of your mouth. The 8000 doesn’t offer you this equipment since the Smart Guide has been integrated in the latest version the Oral-B APP, which features an even more advanced display via the smartphone screen. On the 8000 you will be able to see what part of your mouth you’re are currently cleaning, as well as where you should shift your focus too, via a technology called “position detection”.
  • The Oral-B 8000 provides a useful smartphone holder in the accessories, you can easily hold your smartphone on the mirror and look up the feedbacks and real-time coachings on the APP.
  • In addition, the Oral-B 8000 has a better battery performance than 7000, it’s Li-Ion power system can last 12 days for a regular use after full charge while 7000 only last for 10days.

As you can see, both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 are the most powerful brushes off the entire product line of Oral-B and have a lot going for them, but they have no shortcomings?

  • Since these handles are on the higher end of the price spectrum. You are definitely paying for the advanced features and technological capabilities with these brushes. However, you can take a look the mid-end products (Oral-B Pro 5000 & Pro 6000)  if you don’t want to invest too much at this stage.
  • Besides, I think these two products are not rich in color. In particular, compared with Philips, their high-end series – Sonicare DiamondClean Smart offers multiple color options that meet the preferences of different uses in all sexes and ages.

Last question, which product is more worth buying? In my opinion, if you are very smartphone savvy, and don’t mind spending a few extra dollars, the 8000 might be right for you. After all, like I said, the Oral-B 8000 is the latest flagship while the 7000 is the last generation.

Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000 Electric Toothbrush Review

Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000 Summary

Both are exceptional toothbrushes. The Oral-B Pro 8000 is overall a slightly better electric toothbrush with more features, lighter and generally a more up to date toothbrush. However if I lived in the United States I would buy the Oral-B Pro 7000. If I was in the United Kingdom I would buy the Oral-B Pro 8000.

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 are at the premium end of the Oral-B range. They are both extremely capable toothbrushes with many features but which gives you the most bang for your buck. This review will do a direct comparison between the brushes so you know which one to buy. Who will win the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000. But just before we start you should know…

1) Geographical differences:

Looking at Amazon.com and amazon.co.uk, I can see that there is a clear favourite in each region.

In the United Kingdom, the favourite is the Oral-B Pro 8000. This is because it is competively priced at £109.00. In comparison the Oral-B Pro 7000 is £155.41.

In the United States, the favourite is the Oral-B Pro 7000. This is likely because it is priced at $129.94. In comparison the Oral-B Pro 8000 is $176.34.

2) Features: Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 come with a raft of features to be expected for two top of the range toothbrushes.

Features: Similarities between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have a pressure sensor that flashes red if you are pressing too hard. Not only do they both have a pressure indicator light but if you press too hard the brush automatically slows down the speed and power of the brush head. This is essential on an electric toothbrush as pressing too firmly can cause gum recession and tooth wear.

Both Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have blue tooth connectivity to the Oral-B app. The Oral-B app is a great habit forming tool. It not only tracks your progress with cool graphs but senses when you brush too hard. The most important thing for me about the Oral-B pro app is that it is a great motivator to brush twice a day and for two minutes.

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have stands to hold the electric toothbrush upright and to hold any additional toothbrush heads. This stops the toothbrush heads and holder getting grimy and mucky.

Features: Differences between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

In cleaning modes the Oral-B Pro 7000 has one more cleaning mode than the Oral-B Pro 8000. This is the tongue cleaning mode

  • Daily Clean
  • Deep Clean
  • Whitening
  • Massage
  • Sensitive
  • Tongue Cleaning – Oral-B Pro 7000 only

Although I think number of cleaning modes are pretty irrelevant on electric toothbrushes, a tongue cleaning mode actually could be quite useful.

The Oral-B Pro 7000 comes with a wireless smart guide. This means that if you do not have your phone on you for whatever reason, you can use this to measure the amount of time you have brushed for and the pressure. It will even give you a star rating for how well it thinks you have brushed your teeth and you will get a smiley face when you have finished.

The Oral-B Pro 8000 in comparison has done away with the wireless smart guide and has given you additional features for your phone. It comes with a smartphone holder so that you can put it on your mirror. The reason they have done this is so that you can get the optimal use of the advanced position detection technology. What this allows you to do is to find out the areas you have missed whilst brushing and correct them. This is really groundbreaking as frequently missing areas whilst brushing can lead to decay or gum disease. The other feature that Oral-B Pro 8000 has is a Smart Ring with LED lights which allows you to personalize your toothbrush. It allows you to choose up to 12 colours using your smartphone app  which gives you visual feedback on brushing time, selected mode and brushing pressure.

The Oral-B Pro 8000 also has a final trick up its sleeve. It has a lithium-ion battery in the travel case that allows you to charge both your toothbrush and smartphone using one outlet. This is really handy particularly when travelling. I have done a detailed review of the Oral-B Genius 8000 here.

 Features: Verdict

The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 wins on features because it is a more modern version of the Oral-B Pro 7000. Although it does not come with the wireless smart guide, the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 other features like the Oral-B app, advanced positioning detection technology and smartphone holder makes the wireless smart guide obsolete. This is especially as we now carry our smartphones everywhere with us.

3) Mechanism of Action: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Mechanism of Action: Similarities between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 70000 and 8000 have the same mechanism of action which is oscillating rotating. The electric toothbrushes manage 40,000 oscillations and 8800 pulsations per minute and therefore are the same power. Both electric toothbrushes can fit all the Oral-B Brush heads including:

  • Oral-B CrossAction (Recommended brush head for most people)
  • The Oral-B Sensitive  (Recommended brush head for people with sensitive teeth)
  • Oral-B Precision Clean
  • The Oral-B Dual Clean
  • Oral-B 3D White
  • The Oral-B Trizone
  • Oral-B Floss Action

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 come with three brush heads as standard: 1 x Cross action, 1 x Sensitive and  1 x 3D White

Mechanism of Action: Differences between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

There are no differences!

Mechanism of Action: Verdict

Both Electric toothbrushes are the same in this regard. They have the same number of brush heads and the same oscillations and pulsations per minute.

4) Battery Life: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Battery Life: Similarities between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

As expected from two top of the range toothbrushes, both electric toothbrushes come with rechargeable batteries and charging stands. The battery life for both electric toothbrushes is 40 minutes which is 10 days using it twice daily for 2 minutes each brush. This is much better than the other electric toothbrushes in the Oral-B range.

Battery Life: Differences between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

The Oral-B Pro 7000 uses a NiCd  (Nickel Cadmium) rechargable battery which runs off 110V.  This leads to a much slower charge time the Oral-B Pro 8000. The Oral-B Pro 8000 uses a Lithium Ion Battery which runs off 220-240v. The reason for this is because the Oral-B Pro 7000 has been designed for the US market and Oral-B Pro 8000 for the UK market.

Battery Life: Verdict

Similar Battery Life however the Oral-B Pro Genius 8000 edges it because of the better type of battery (lithium ion) and faster charging times. This is because it has been designed for the United Kingdom Market.

5) Portability: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Portability: Similarities between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 comes with travel cases and in terms of portability that is where the similarities stop.

Portability: Differences between the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

The Oral B Pro 8000 is slightly lighter than the Oral-B Pro 7000. The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 is 28 grams lighter with the brush head. This is not a significant amount, however, could be the difference between being over the luggage weight limit when travelling. The Oral-B Pro 8000 also comes with a premium travel case that has a lithium-ion battery that can charge your phone and toothbrush at the same time.

Portability: Verdict

The Oral-B Pro Genius 8000 is lighter and has a premium travel case that can charge your phone and toothbrush at the same time. It is the clear winner when travelling.

6) Value for money: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

As alluded to right at the beginning of the post, the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 have been designed for different markets. In the United Kingdom the Oral-B Pro 8000 is clearly the best value for money being currently cheaper than the Oral-B Pro 7000.

In the United States the Oral-B pro 7000 is the clear winner being significantly cheaper than the Oral-B pro 8000. Although admittedly the Oral-B Pro 8000 is a better electric toothbrush with more features. I would still say that Oral-B Pro 7000 in US would represent better value for money.

Value for Money: Verdict

It depends on where you live. The Oral-B Pro 7000 is the winner in the United States and the Oral-B Pro 8000 is in my view the best electric toothbrush in the United Kingdom.

Summary: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Both these electric toothbrushes are exceptional.
